Northern Vietnam includes 25 provinces and cities with an area of over 156,000 square kilometers, divided into three sub-regions: the Northeast, the Northwest, and the Red River Delta.
With favorable natural conditions, Northern Vietnam has abundant and diverse raw materials, concentrated in the Northeast and Northwest regions. Plywood production is concentrated in the Red River Delta, with many large factories and skilled labor, producing high-quality plywood.
Abundant raw material resources
The diverse mountainous terrain, along with a hot and humid climate, heavy rainfall, and year-round precipitation, creates favorable conditions for forest development in Northern Vietnam. According to the 2022 statistics from the Forestry General Department, the total forest area in the North reached 5,887,091 hectares, of which 1,959,049 hectares are plantation forests. This is the second-largest wood resource area in Vietnam, after the Central region.
The famous raw wood regions in Northern Vietnam include Lang Son, Bac Giang, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, among others. Besides exploiting natural forests, the area of planted forests has significantly increased. This not only brings sustainable economic benefits but also contributes to environmental protection and limits climate change.
Acacia Forest
Eucalyptus Forest
Pine Forest
Magnolia Forest
According to the statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, nearly 80% of the plantation forest area in the North consists of Acacia and Eucalyptus, as these trees can adapt to various soil conditions and harsh weather, have a short growth period, and high economic value. In addition, wood species such as Pine, Styrax, and Magnolia have relatively high harvest yields, serving various wood production and processing industries.
Major production areas
According to Vietnam Yellow Pages statistics, plywood manufacturing and trading enterprises in the North are mainly concentrated in Hanoi, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Bac Giang, and Yen Bai. These regions benefit from a strategic location near major timber-producing areas such as northern mountainous provinces, ensuring a stable and accessible supply of raw materials.
TIn the North, plywood production benefits from high-quality raw materials with a wood density averaging 600-700 kg/CBM. These materials primarily use Acacia, Eucalyptus, or Mixed Hardwood cores. They are competitively priced and known for their superior quality. Major plywood factories in Ha Noi, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, and Thai Nguyen use advanced production technologies. This allows them to produce large quantities of high-quality plywood. Their products meet the strict quality standards of international markets such as the USA, South Korea, Malaysia, India, and Thailand. This positions the North as a reliable supplier in the global plywood industry.
With the advantage of raw materials and manufacturing techniques, the strong products in the plywood industry of Northern Vietnam include: Film Faced Plywood, Commercial Plywood, Packing Plywood, Container Flooring Plywood and LVL.
Characteristics of Plywood Production
The plywood production in Northern Vietnam offers several advantages that enhance the reputation of plywood from this region in both domestic and international markets, including:
- Abundant and diverse raw materials: Many types of wood suitable for plywood production, such as acacia, eucalyptus, and pine, are well-grown and developed under the region’s climate and soil conditions.
- Competitive raw material costs: The availability of local timber helps reduce transportation costs and the price of input materials.
- Abundant labor supply: This region has a plentiful and skilled labor force with reasonable labor costs, contributing to the optimization of plywood quality and production costs.

However, plywood production in Northern Vietnam also faces some limitations that need attention and investment from the government and businesses to improve the quality of plywood and optimize production costs:
- Transportation limitations: Challenging mountainous terrain hinders the transportation of raw materials and goods, affecting production schedules and increasing production costs.
- Fragmented production: Many production facilities operate at small scales with inadequate modern equipment, resulting in lower productivity and product quality.
In summary
In summary, plywood production in Northern Vietnam benefits greatly from abundant raw materials and a plentiful labor force. Manufacturing and trading plywood in this region have flourished, creating substantial employment opportunities and contributing significantly to regional economic development.
Northern Vietnam offers a diverse range of plywood products including film faced plywood, commercial plywood, packing plywood, container flooring plywood, LVL, all known for its GOOD QUALITY and GOOD PRICE. These factors have established Vietnam’s plywood brands successfully in the international market.
